Part Time Headteacher job summary

The Governing Body of Chater Infant School is seeking to appoint an experienced Headteacher to join the school in a part-time job-share role (0.5 FTE) from September 2026. This is a unique opportunity to work alongside our current, very experienced and highly successful Headteacher, ensuring continuity and shared strategic leadership. Flexibility within the working pattern will be considered.

Chater Infant School is a thriving two-form entry maintained infant school serving a richly diverse community. Our inclusive ethos is central to everything we do and our children are happy, confident learners who feel safe, valued and respected.

In July 2024, an ungraded Ofsted inspection confirmed that the school continues to be judged Good, with inspectors recognising strong practice and identifying features that indicate the school could be considered Outstanding at its next graded inspection. High expectations, strong relationships and a commitment to inclusion were key strengths noted.

The role

Working as part of a job-share headship, the successful candidate will contribute to the strategic leadership of the school, supporting high-quality teaching and learning while sustaining the school’s nurturing, ambitious culture. This role would suit a current or former headteacher who values collaborative leadership and flexible working.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is an experienced headteacher with a proven record of effective leadership
  • Demonstrates strong, inclusive and values-driven leadership
  • Thrives in a collaborative job-share partnership
  • Has a deep understanding of infant education
  • Is committed to safeguarding, equality, diversity and pupil wellbeing
  • Builds positive relationships with pupils, staff, families, governors and partners

Please note: Only candidates with previous headship experience will be considered.
