Job Description
To support class teachers by assisting in classroom management and by providing support with behaviour management.
To support good pastoral and behaviour management practice in the classroom with whole group and 1:1 work.
Assist with the administration of medication, storage and reporting procedures across the school.
Assist with the delivery of sports therapy intervention sessions where required.
Assist children in dealing with behavioural and/or emotional difficulties or particular vulnerabilities.
Ensure that all children and young people are treated with dignity and respect, in an environment which reflects the importance of and their right to be treated as valuable worthwhile individuals
Support the fulfilment of day pastoral care systems and practice across the school.
Undertake activities with either individuals or small groups of children in order to facilitate their physical, emotional and educational development.
Carry out the duties of a classroom assistant as required and directed by the Director of Behaviour.
Take every step necessary to ensure that our children and young people are protected from neglect, abuse, and exploitation, assisting in ensuring safeguarding is a key and active part of the ethos at TWA.
To assist with developing student information to support staff in planning for individual pupil's needs including risk assessments, pupil profiles etc.
To support students in promoting self-care and self-regulation to support their mental health and wellbeing.
Support teaching staff and the Director of Behaviour with monitoring student progress towards curriculum targets, attendance, and behaviour.
To assist with celebrating success and exploring barriers with the students for them to gain confidence and be self-reflective to build resilience and develop as healthy young people.
To liaise effectively with parents, carers and the occupational therapist.
Provide a high standard of support for personal, physical care for children, particularly in the areas of safety, health and hygiene.
To be a designated First Aider
To accompany students to external activities or on educational visits as required.
Supervise pupils in playgrounds, lunchrooms etc and assist with general pastoral care
Accompany teachers and pupils on trips and out of school activities as required within contract hours, taking responsibility for pupils under the supervision of the teacher
Essential Person Specification.
Sports Therapy Qualification
English and maths GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C)
Experience working with young people who have Social, Emotional or Mental Health difficulties and/or behaviours that challenge.
A broader understanding of SEN
Ability to work in partnership with Teachers and SLT
Knowledge of and/or experience in using strategies to support vulnerable young people.
An awareness of keeping children safe, noticing safeguarding and welfare concerns and an understanding of how and when to take appropriate action.
Belief that every student should have access to an excellent education regardless of background.
Professional outlook able to multitask and meet deadlines
A team player that can work collaboratively as well as using own initiative
Helpful, positive, patient, and caring nature
Calm and professional under pressure
Understanding of the importance of confidentiality and discretion
