The purpose of the Pastoral Assistant is to work as a member of the school’s pastoral team, working as a link between the senior pastoral managers and teaching staff within the school. You will interrogate the schools behaviour and attendance data daily to inform your daily work.

You will:

 Be able to support teaching and learning across KS2, 3 and be a committed Pastoral Assistant working and work in line with the schools new behaviour regulation system
 Be able to modify challenging behaviour in a firm but supportive manner
 Be child centred
 Be flexible with a good sense of humour

You will be assigned a case load of pupils to work with at a multi-agency level.

You will be on call on the radio to provide support so that children get the ‘right help, at the right time’. You will become a Team Teach tutor to train staff in de-escalation and restrictive physical intervention to support the schools’ development in effective behaviour management and support other schools as part of our inclusion funding obligations.

The focus of your role will be to support the needs of students who have barriers to their learning and need targeted support to raise their aspirations and develop appropriate ‘behaviours for learning’. Barriers to learning could include attendance, home issues, and emotional, social and behavioural difficulties.

The role will focus on working with individual students in order to provide personalised interventions to secure improvements in their behaviour, attendance and outcomes.

The wider role will include running the schools work related learning and enterprise program, in that you will be responsible for the work experience, pupils accessing college and providing support to them in their application and interview stages. You will also maintain regular contact with the year 11 leavers.
The person appointed will be required to be flexible around the needs of the school.

A full, clean driving license is essential.

As The Observatory School grows we are creating a team which has high expectations and sets high standards for both pupils and colleagues. If you believe that you fit this description we would like to hear from you.

About The Observatory School

Founded in 2007, The Observatory School is nestled in the village of Bidston at the foot of the historic Bidston Hill. The school is set in several acres of leafy grounds and we are bound by forests and greenbelt land. Everything that our children need is on-site, from the state of the art classrooms to sports pitches, sensory play areas and highly specialist social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) and Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) Nurture Bases.

We support children who are experiencing or at risk of social, emotional mental health and our aim is to develop happy, confident, and well-rounded individuals that aspire to be more than they thought they could be.

Our pupils experience a highly supportive and nurturing curriculum, develop leadership skills, and a lifelong love of learning. Our happy, nurturing environment gives every single pupil the confidence to strive for the best and work together with our staff and other children to realise their full potential
