What skills and experience we're looking for

  • Relevant qualification in relation to children’s care
  • Trained in child protection to Designated Safeguarding Lead level (or willingness to train early in post if other competencies are met)
  • A thorough understanding and substantial experience of child protection systems and process
  • Recent experience of working directly with pupils with additional and complex social/ emotional needs, including behavioural difficulties
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including experience of working with staff during high-stress moments and with hard-to-engage parents
  • Excellent organisational skills and highly competent in prioritising and working to deadlines
  • Exemplary record keeping skills
  • The ability to act on own initiative
  • The ability to coordinate the work of multiple professionals from different agencies
  • Excellent ICT skills (ability to confidently use Microsoft Office applications)
  • Knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning in primary schools and the role that child protection and pastoral care play in raising achievement
