About St John the Baptist Primary School
St John the Baptist C.E. (Aided) Primary School is located in the market town of Spalding, which is in the south of Lincolnshire. Spalding offers lower cost housing compared to many areas, whilst at the same time being close to cities such as Peterborough. The town itself has a wide variety of specialist shops as well as an out of town retail outlet. There is a good range of housing and the town has good links to the A1, as well as a railway link that puts the east coast main line within easy reach.
St. John’s is a Church of England “aided” Primary School dates back to 1874 / 75 when, through the generosity of Miss Elizabeth Ann Johnson and Miss Mary Ann Johnson, both the school and the church next door were built.
The church and the school have always had a special link and we are proud of this. The link still exists today in a variety of ways.
Today the school has grown in size and there are 433 children on roll. To accommodate more children the school has been extended over the years so that we now have fourteen classes. We have extending and refurbished the school to include a large Foundation Stage and Year 1 outdoor area, a smart library, two halls, and a curriculum kitchen as well as extensive playing fields, playground, allotment and wildlife area. We also have a kitchen on site for school meal provision.
In addition the school is very well resourced with I.C.T equipment, outdoor provision and other learning resources.
There are two classes for each year group, so children are always taught with children of their own age. Classes are also organised into Phase groups (EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2), with each Phase having its own Phase Leader who looks after day to day organisation and who forms part of the school’s Senior Leadership Team. In addition there is also a Deputy Headteacher and Senco.
The school has over fifty staff. Our staff team is extremely important and we have a highly professional and hard working team. We value staff and believe that it is important that we encourage and offer staff the opportunity to further develop their skills and experience.
