Pastoral Leader job summary

Castle Primary School is a vibrant and growing school, situated in Keynsham.

The Pastoral Leader will support children who are vulnerable to under-achieving in their education due to a variety of issues. This includes adverse childhood experiences and mental health issues which can affect their relationships, behaviour in school and well-being.

The post holder will have shared responsibility for the welfare, emotional and social needs of these children and may involve offering or organising an ‘alternative’ curriculum for pupils. As a school we are pursuing a trauma-informed approach to supporting children

In addition, part of the post will involve signposting parents to support around issues affecting their child(ren) or family - so effective communication skills (including conflict resolution) and an understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality are essential.

The post holder will liaise closely with Senior Leaders and the SENCo – as well as parents and other professionals – in Education, Welfare, Social Care and Health. They will be also be involved in our Forest School programme alongside staff from Wiltshire Outdoor Learning Team (a qualification is advantageous but training can be provided).

A background in social work, social care, police or QTS would be an advantage, but not essential, as relevant training, a full induction and on-going mentoring will be offered for the right candidate.

The previous post-holder held Thrive and Emotional Literacy Support (ELSA) certificates – again this is not essential as training can be provided.

The candidate will have a positive ‘can-do’ attitude, be flexible and have high levels of both emotional literacy and resilience. Maintaining your well-being out of school is also a requirement and any hobbies or life skills that can be shared with our pupils will also be an advantage.

Our ambition, is to eventually have a Nurture Room (groups) and the post-holder will take the lead on this new approach (full-training will be provided) alongside a colleague.

This is an opportunity to make a real difference to children’s lives and their futures. It is a chance to join a supportive team, on an improvement journey and to ensure all our children reach their potential.

Our children thrive with adults who are friendly, firm and fair, so we are seeking adults who are calm, consistent and committed.

We can offer you:

  • Children who will make you smile everyday
  • Consideration of your ‘well-being’ and access to support (in the eventuality any is required)
  • Access to high-quality training at both whole school and for you as an individual
  • The support of a committed team
  • Opportunities to grow as a professional
  • The support of a Trust who, like us, values its employees and respects our school’s individuality
  • Term Time Working
  • A pending pay award
  • Pension contributions
  • Access to the Cycle to Work Scheme

This position will include playtime ‘duty’ and 30 minutes (unpaid) lunch.

We would encourage visits to our school so you can see for yourself all we can offer.

The Partnership Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
