What skills and experience we're looking for

The Alpha Trust has an opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed person to join our friendly team in the role of Payroll and Pensions Officer.

We are a small but growing Multi-Academy Trust with five schools based in Colchester and Manningtree. We are dynamic, innovative and highly successful. The Trust has a small central team of finance and HR staff who work in collaboration with teams in our schools to deliver finance and payroll on behalf of the Trust. The post is based in the Alpha Trust offices on the site of Colchester County High School for Girls. The main duties of the role include:

  • Preparation and processing of payroll and pension changes for employees across the Trust;
  • Working with schools on the on-boarding of staff new to the Trust schools;
  • The preparation of returns to the HMRC and pension schemes;
  • Dealing with complex payroll cases including in relation to child-related absences, sickness absences and holiday entitlement;
  • Providing support and advice on payroll queries to colleagues in our schools.

Our successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Experience of delivering or supporting the delivery of payroll;
  • Good numerical ability, accuracy and attention to detail
  • The ability to meet deadlines and to prioritise competing tasks;
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.
