Payroll Specialist - 35 hours per week job summary


Are you an experienced payroll professional looking to take the next step in your career? Join our dedicated team and play a key role in delivering accurate and timely payroll services across our Academy Trust and St Bede’s Childcare.

About the Role

As our Payroll Specialist, you’ll lead the payroll function, ensuring all payrolls are processed efficiently and in line with statutory requirements. You’ll also manage pensions administration, auto enrolment, and year-end responsibilities, while maintaining strong relationships with internal teams and external partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support the Payroll Team, including appraisals and CPD
  • Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing and liaise with HR
  • Maintain and improve the Payroll/HR database
  • Ensure compliance with payroll policies and procedures
  • Apply knowledge of Burgundy and Green Book pay frameworks
  • Support annual pay reviews and ensure correct implementation
  • Manage pension submissions, auto enrolment, and monthly recharges
  • Produce financial and operational reports as needed
  • Meet all payroll deadlines and statutory requirements
  • Uphold data protection and company policies

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a busy payroll environment
  • Strong operational payroll knowledge including pensions and auto enrolment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong IT skills, especially Excel

Desirable:

  • CIPP Payroll Specialist Certificate or Foundation Degree
  • Experience with local authority and teachers’ pay frameworks
  • Experience managing staff and leading payroll teams
