Department Information  The Music Department currently consists of two full-time classroom music teachers and seven part time peripatetic teachers. Facilities in the department include a well-stocked music classroom with 5 practice rooms (all with digital or upright pianos), a digital recording studio and a music-ICT suite. Standards in the department are high with students achieving well academically and taking full advantage of the extensive range of extra-curricular opportunities provided.  Music is a valued feature of school life, with many concerts, productions and performances taking place throughout the year.  We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Guitar Teacher to teach peripatetic music lessons to a range of pupils from year 7 to year 13. Lessons are timetabled on a rotational basis either individually or in pairs. Many pupils who have instrumental lessons undertake graded exams from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and RSL Rock School. The ability to develop the teaching of these syllabi and to encourage and increase the numbers of pupils taking up guitar lessons is essential to this post.  The successful applicant will have experience in teaching classical, electric and bass guitars. Whilst the majority of our students are beginner to about grade 2-3 on guitar a number of students do take the higher grades. The ability to teach up to grade 8 standard is essential. The applicant would be expected to be able to competently accompany their pupils on the piano during lesson time when required. Any further piano teaching or accompaniment expertise would also be welcome, but this is by no means essential.  The Department offers qualifications at GCSE and A level in music. With a number of guitarists in different year groups the successful candidate will often be required to assist with the selection of repertoire and exam preparation with these pupils. 

  • When required they will be able to conduct observations, monitor the progress of the students and be able to write reports on student progress.Responsibilities:To undertake the teaching of guitar.


    • To complete a weekly register, notifying the Subject Leader of absentees.


    • To provide termly progress reports for each student.


    • To encourage and prepare students with ABRSM and Rock School exam entries.


    • To work with the Music Department staff to support students with their curriculum performance studies, including GCSE and A level.


    • To work with the music department staff to support our extra-curricular activities.


    • To help maintain the guitar school instruments, notifying the Subject Leader of requirements.Specific responsibilities are set out in a detailed job description.In return we can offer:
