What skills and experience we're looking for
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Pastoral Department within an outstanding Sixth Form College. We are seeking a proactive individual to provide an excellent level of support to both staff and students in the College.
The Pastoral Team at Farnborough is probably unique in that it contains full-time, specialist pastoral experts who support and follow their group through their time at College. The team contains a range of experienced teachers who have outstanding pastoral skills. A Personal Tutor at Farnborough is typically timetabled for 2 teaching groups (6 lessons) + 7 Tutor Group Tutorials (7 Lessons). We are looking for a Tutor who displays the following characteristics:
empathy with young people;
excellent inter-personal skills;
a flexible, adaptable approach;
organised and efficient.
Key strengths are:
Delivering and contributing to an outstanding Tutorial programme;
Sharing, and actively engaging, in a vibrant team of specialist Tutors;
Contribute to the admissions and progression process;
Overseeing the progress of 140 students within a Tutor Group;
Help maintain student discipline and attendance within the Tutor Group;
Demonstrate excellence as a teacher.
Day to Day Expectations of a Teacher
A full time teacher will have 22.5 hours per week contact with students, split over 5 Teaching groups (15 periods ) with 5 additional periods for preparation & marking.
On a Tuesday all staff are expected to attend a briefing at 8.40am and departmental meetings / all staff staff CPD after college, finishing at 5.20pm.
Throughout the year there are a number of whole college events, (open evenings, parent evenings, Interview day, Applicant Evening, Getting Ready Days,enrolment and induction) at which attendance is required.
Common resources are shared within departments and there are regular opportunities for professional development, delivering extracurricular student clubs and wellbeing / social activities.
