Phase Leader (and Class Teacher) job summary

We are looking for a dynamic, ambitious and highly skilled teacher, who is able to bring new and fresh ideas to our senior leadership team. The successful candidate will be somebody who is innovative, understands how to inspire children of all abilities to learn, and who has shown strong leadership qualities in their current role.

As a phase leader, the TLR post holder will lead and manage a team of two class teachers and a teaching assistant to raise the quality of teaching and learning (and standards) in one of the following phases (EYFS, KS1, LKS2 or UKS2) – and while a clear strength in one, or more, of these phases is essential, an ability to teach in all other phases throughout the school is desirable. The successful candidate must also have an excellent subject knowledge (especially in English, Mathematics and Computing) and have a secure understanding of the expectations of pupils at the end of each key stage.

The additional responsibilities associated with this role would be:

- taking on the role and responsibility of a Phase Leader (working alongside phase leaders for EYFS, KS1, LKS2 and/or UKS2);
- modelling consistently good and outstanding classroom practice;
- line managing and appraising identified staff (teachers, teaching assistants and 1:1 support assistants);
- taking on the lead role and responsibility for developing and improving a key subject area and/or key area for development on the strategic school improvement plan;
- contributing to, and leading, staff meetings and the continued professional development of staff.

We are looking for someone who has:

- experience of teaching across a variety of age ranges relevant to the post;
- experience of coordinating or leading a curriculum area successfully;
- a clear understanding of the essential qualities necessary for improving the quality of teaching and learning;
- in depth knowledge of the primary national curriculum;
- the ability to support and motivate colleagues and pupils by leading through example;
- an understanding of behavioural and attachment issues;
- experience of effectively supporting children with special educational needs or disabilities (and how to evidence the impact of any differentiation and/or extra support).
