Columbus provides for pupils aged between 3 and 19 with severe and profound learning difficulties, many of which also have autism. We deliver an excellent education to pupils across two campuses with some of the highest quality learning environments in the country for pupils with special needs. We provide a broad and ambitious curriculum that is profoundly focused on preparing learners for the future.
We have high expectations of learners' progress across the key areas of communication and interaction; cognition and learning; sensory, physical health and development; social, emotional and mental health; and self help and independence. Each learner has a personalised curriculum closely related to their education, health and care plan (EHCP). The curriculum is designed through collaboration with parents and carers and, as necessary, other professionals and specialists.
We are seeking to appoint a forward thinking Phase Leader with a key focus on supporting curriculum planning and management, teaching and learning and student support for one of our learning pathways (there is some flexibility on which).
Columbus has four Phase Leaders covering Early Years, through to Post 16 education. These roles are to lead a team responsible for developing one pathway of our learners through their academic journey, including the support of outcomes, community engagement, vocational experiences, and life-skills to be ready to progress in adult-life after school.
As a key member of the Leadership Team, you will motivate and support a teaching team to enable excellent student progress and foster positive relationships with our families.
The post-holder should also have a proven track record of effectively managing improvement in a SEND setting, and be able to demonstrate innovative methods of teaching whilst inspiring staff and students alike.
