What skills and experience we're looking for

  • There is a wave of change and improvement at Bishop Challoner, can you be part of our journey of improvement?

The Governors seek to appoint an enthusiastic, outstanding PE Teacher with the energy and commitment to teach PE to our pupils. We are looking for a passionate and talented practitioner, someone who is able to motivate students, lead on extra-curricular activities and inspire the next generation of athletes. The successful candidate will be creative, a strong role model and an advocate for our students.

From September 2023, Bishop Challoner’s two schools merged, creating one co-educational school. The school has 1232 students on roll, including 211 in the Sixth Form.Bishop Challoner is in an area of relatively high deprivation which transforms the life opportunities of children. If you came into teaching to transform lives, then this is an opportunity for you to do so.We have state of the art buildings and facilities and dedicated professional staff - Bishop Challoner is an exciting and supportive environment in which to work and develop your career.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of a strong and effective PE department. This would suit both experiences and ECTs.

Physical Educationis a highly popular subject at the school, attracting high numbers across examinable courses in KS4 and 5.However, we are not complacent - working with a team of passionate and dedicated practitioners, you will contribute to the development of a faculty that aims to maintain an outstanding reputation.

The PE department is extremely committed to providing a safe, relevant, enjoyable and all-inclusive curriculum. As a school we recognise the role that sport can play in the holistic development of a young person and the integral role this plays in society. The PE department provides a wide variety of sports, ensuring that pupils can pursue their sporting interests both inside and outside of school. In addition to providing an inclusive curriculum we are a school that actively encourages the pursuit of sporting excellence. We have a number of students and sports teams that compete at a regional and national level with our most successful sports being football, basketball, netball and athletics. A high level of experience in any of these sports is desirable though not essential.
