What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking an enthusiastic teacher to join our successful Science department to teach Physics and Biology to KS4 and General Science to KS3. You will join a leading department in a heavily over-subscribed academy. The Science department is staffed with a mixture of experienced teachers, ECTs and two technicians, all with a commitment to continuous school improvement. We have a suite of dedicated Science laboratories, all with newly installed up-to-date technology, plus a recently refurbished lab and Sixth Form facilities.

You will be keen to promote the Science department and improve upon the opportunities available to our students. We want an individual to enhance the experience of our pupils both in and out of the classroom, someone who is innovative in their specialism and truly wants to inspire the budding Highcrest future scientists.

Are you a team player, passionate about education and social mobility? Do you want to be a pivotal part of improving opportunities for students and increasing their learning and social experiences? Do you want to work in an environment which prioritises staff and student health and well-being? Then please apply now!

What the school offers its staff

A thriving and friendly academy in the heart of the community, with staff recognition schemes, free gym and staff sports teams, to counter the free breakfast, “Friday Treats” and on-site coffee shop! We also offer the possibility of shared staff living accommodation and on-site parking.

“Staff feel very well supported by senior leaders. According to staff, they feel valued because senior leaders are approachable...” Ofsted 2020

Highcrest offers both an excellent induction and support programme for ECTs and an innovative and extensive CPD package for ECTs and more experienced teachers. In addition, as an ECT, you will have weekly CPD meetings with experienced members of staff, weekly time-tabled and protected Mentor Meetings, and subject knowledge time with departments.

Commitment to safeguarding

The Highcrest Academy is fully committed to safeguarding children (policies on web). All members of staff are in a “regulated” role under the Vetting & Barring Scheme and have to be DBS cleared prior to employment.

All who work at the academy reinforce our six virtues linked to our motto (Ambition, Sensitivity, Purpose, Integrity, Resilience and Eloquence), helping us instil a culture of excellence that runs throughout every strand of our Academy.

Situated in the leafy Chilterns and within easy reach of Central London, Highcrest is culturally and academically diverse and is the only academy in Buckinghamshire that caters for students of ‘all abilities’. Some of our students need all your support, whilst others need to be challenged and stretched. Our inclusive and successful House system, a wide range of clubs, visits and trips helps to bring our whole school community together. There are approximately 1,000 students on roll, including the Sixth Form. Recent additions to our site include a gym and restaurant/coffee shop for both staff and students, as well as a purpose-built Sixth Form Centre.
