Our Lady of Compassion School, part of Our Lady and All Saints MAC, is looking for a warm and friendly Play Assistant to join our school. We are looking for an approachable person with good interpersonal skills, who is engaging, dynamic and self-motivated; a professional who is committed to building excellent relationships with our children and who is eager to work alongside a friendly and hardworking team to support the children in their care. The Play Assistant will work as part of a team of staff in the Breakfast and After School Club (known as Footsteps) and during the afternoon in the school setting, supporting the children in their play activities and their overall development. They will set up, deliver and promote high quality, inclusive and stimulating play activities that help the children, whatever their abilities, express themselves and develop as individuals. They will create opportunities, plan resources and prepare the environment and spaces in which children can play in their own way.

We are seeking a Play Worker to join our team. The successful candidate will:

  • Welcome the children and their families as they arrive in school in the morning.
  • Be an advocate for the children’s right to play, to be listened to and be safe.
  • Participate in the development and delivery curriculum
  • Set up, deliver and promote high quality, inclusive and stimulating play activities that help the children, whatever their abilities, express themselves and develop as individuals.
  • Create opportunities and spaces in which children can play, planning resources and preparing the environment so that the children can play in their own way.
  • Look after resources and materials, making sure that the children are safely equipped to carry out an activity.
  • Provide one-to-one support to individual children where appropriate.
  • Assist the teacher in supervising children during playtimes, on visits, trips and out-of-school activities as required.
  • Enable children to be included in games during playtime.
  • Supervise and support the children during lunchtime.
  • Administer first aid as appropriate.
  • Support volunteers and placement students helping with play as required.
  • Be aware of and follow OLC’s Safeguarding and Child Protection processes and procedures, reporting and recording concerns where appropriate and necessary.
  • Attend meetings and training associated with the post as required.
  • Ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times
