Pre-School Key Worker job summary

Responsible to: Headteacher & Pre-School Leader

Job Purpose

  • To support the day to day running of the Pre-School, to include the provision of a caring, safe, secure and stimulating environment
  • To deliver a range of learning activities both indoors and outdoors based on observations and children's interests

Roles and Responsibilities

  • To comply at all times with school policies, procedures and standards, including safeguarding and child protection, health and safety, hygiene, inclusion & confidentiality
  • To report any cause for concern regarding a child's health or welfare to the designated senior member of staff and to record any accidents to children reporting to the child's Key Worker where appropriate
  • To contribute to the weekly planning of suitable indoor and outdoor areas of activities for the provision of a caring and stimulating environment for children aged between 2-4
  • To work as an equal and active member of the Pre-School Team to deliver the Foundation Stage curriculum enabling children to flourish
  • To liaise with the Pre-School Leader, Key Workers and other professionals as required to ensure that particular needs are met
  • Promote Christian based values, attitudes and good child behaviour in line with school policy
  • To develop and maintain good relationships and communication with parents and carers to support meeting the needs of each child
  • To actively participate in relevant staff training and development opportunities
  • Contribute to the overall vision and ethos and aims of the school

Physical effort and/or strain

The job requires physical effort on a daily basis when setting up/moving the learning environment around e.g. moving tables, chairs, equipment/resources, and climbing frames etc. Working with very young children involves working at a low level, bending down, picking up and carrying children throughout the day. The job involves working in outdoor areas in all weather conditions at least once a day for extended periods of time. In the summer, outdoor working can be more frequent and intensive.

The Pre-School Assistant will be required to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people, and follow school policies and the staff safer code of conduct.

The post holder may be required to do other duties appropriate t the level of the role, as directed by the Headteacher.
