Actual Starting Salary: £28,244.57 - £30, 681.22 including fringe allowance

We are seeking a Premises Manager to provide provision of a caretaking service to ensure a clean, healthy and safe environment for users of the buildings and grounds of this primary school.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Undertake weekly / monthly checks: Health and Safety, heating, temperature, flushing, fire alarms and fire equipment, promptly reporting faults and issues.

  • Liaise with the Office Manager for preventative maintenance, scheduling contractors and engineers.

  • Check stock levels of cleaning and washroom consumables stored on site, re-ordering as necessary. Replenish the consumables across the school as required.

  • Termly update of records relating to health and safety compliance, maintenance and service records.

  • Management of health and safety compliance

  • Act as designated key holder for the school and ensure site security including opening and closing of the school.

  • Respond to alarm activations as required and act as the schools primary out of hours contact attending the school as may be required in response to alarm call outs.

  • Completion of general building repairs and maintenance, including plumbing, decorating and other handyman tasks as necessary. Procure specialist contractors when required in line with the Trust procurement policy

  • General porterage duties including safe receipt of goods, prompt delivery to end users, movement of furniture as required and setting up for school events such as assembly and parents evening

  • Maintain fixtures and fittings in good working order. Respond to and complete maintenance requests from the school staff

  • Rubbish collection including recycling/disposal daily - including litter picking ensuring a clean and tidy environment is maintained at all times

  • General grounds maintenance tasks- including clearing of leaves. Liaising with the school’s grounds maintenance contractor as required and ensuring contract standards/requirements are being met.

  • Setting up and clearing the hall for lunch each day including cleaning following the lunch service.. Cleaning of other facilities such as washrooms as may be required during the day and responding to spillages and accidents to ensure a clean and safe school is maintained at all times

  • Liaising with the schools cleaning contractor on a daily basis to highlight specific cleaning requirements and monitor the performance of the contractor against the specification of the cleaning contract

  • Ensure continued safe site accessibility in bad weather e.g. snow clearing, salt spreading

  • In accordance with school guidelines, undertake other duties as reasonably directed by the Head

Supervision and contacts - The post holder is managed by the Headteacher in the first instance and will work with school staff and have contact with pupils, parents, governors, advisors and many types of visitor.

Knowledge, Experience and Training

Essential requirements

  • Demonstrable ability to remain calm and communicate clearly and completely to staff and primary school age pupils as required with regard to issues encountered.

  • Able to undertake manual handling tasks including lifting, carrying and working at heights on ladders.

  • Experience of undertaking general building repairs, cleaning and maintenance to a satisfactory standard, including cleaning up body fluids.

  • Able to maintain efficient records and registers where required - both paper based and digital.

  • Current, clean driving licence with self-managed transport to / from school, including during unsocial hours if necessary.

  • Well developed skills of time management and prioritisation, able to work independently with initiative and as part of a team.

  • Basic IT skills e.g. read and send emails, update record sheets.

Desirable

  • Experience in a similar school based role.

  • Previous experience of setting alarm systems.
