Primary School Headteacher job summary
The Governing Board seek to appoint an inspirational, dedicated and exceptional Headteacher to lead our one form entry Primary School in West Essex. Following on from our Ofsted inspection, rated as good, in November 2019 we are looking for an individual with the vision and expertise to support the school on its journey towards Outstanding. Our new Headteacher will bring a compelling blend of professional ability, focus and ambition for the school. As head of teaching they will lead by example and inspire our passionately committed teachers to be their very best and ensure that a high quality educational experience is available for all pupils. Keeping children safe will be a priority as will be the principles of inclusion. This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate ready for a new challenge. We offer a warm, caring and inclusive ethos, excellent support from all colleagues and professional development opportunities to enable fulfilment of leadership potential. Our school is situated on the edge of Epping Forest, enjoying a large playing field and views across the countryside. We have a committee run Pre-school onsite and recently acquired two railway carriages which we will be converting into learning spaces. Our Governing Board is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety, and the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of children and young people; promoting equality of opportunity and community cohesion where the diversity of different backgrounds and circumstances is appreciated and positively valued; the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs. Upshire Primary Foundation School expects all staff, volunteers and other workers to share this commitment. We are an equal opportunities employer and appointment will be subject to satisfactory references, DBS and medical checks.Applying for the job

There has been a school in Upshire since 1874. It was then housed in a building on the Warlies Estate. The present school has been on this site since 1939. The buildings have been extended and altered during this time. A major refurbishment was carried out during 1989/90 with redecoration and upgrading of many facilities.
Upshire Primary Foundation School is a co-educational primary school for children aged four years to eleven years of age. The standard number for admittance during the academic year is 30, although in September 2017 we accommodated an additional class of 30 Reception children. We currently have 231 children on roll, although this number does fluctuate. There is also a Pre-school on the site which admits children part time from the age of 2 and offers morning and afternoon sessions.
A particularly beautiful feature of the building is the lovely abstract stained-glass window, which overlooks the main staircase. This was designed by a local Essex artist whilst working with a group of children from Upshire Primary Foundation School. It represents the forest, its leafy glades and the birdsong, which permeates the trees.
The school has its own spacious playing field, two tarmac playgrounds, an adventure trail, outside classroom, wildlife areas and attractive grounds. The school building has a rural aspect overlooking fields where horses frequently graze.
The town of Waltham Abbey with its beautiful Abbey Church and wealth of historic fact and legend is just a mile away and is used as an educational resource by the children. The forest is also very accessible and can be used as a source of study and interest. The Lea Valley Park with its waterways and neighbouring farmlands is also nearby.
