Primary Teacher job summary

The Governors are looking to appoint a primary teacher for January 2023.

Alderman Knight is a school for pupils aged 7 to 19 years so this is a post to teach pupils aged between 7 and 11 years with a range of additional needs. At this time, we have 220 pupils on roll and 102 staff.

Within our KS2 provision we run a curricular model that mirrors a mainstream primary school. Although experience of working and teaching pupils with additional needs will be supportive, what we want most of all, is a talented, hard-working, enthusiastic and outstanding teacher, who really wants to make a difference to our amazing pupils, on a daily basis.

Therefore, we feel that previous extensive experience of teaching pupils with SEND is less important than what sort of teacher and person you are!

We want positive staff who are passionate about improving outcomes for all young people with additional needs and who have consistently high expectations of themselves, as well as us and their pupils, and consistently deliver exciting, memorable and most importantly high quality lessons that help our pupils make excellent progress.

We will require you to have an excellent knowledge and understanding of the National Curriculum and the ability to differentiate learning experiences to match the needs of the individual. You will also be a highly motivated, energetic person with a desire to become involved in all aspects of school life.

All our staff need to be flexible in their approach and be able to teach the curriculum to children with a range of needs and abilities. This helps ensure we have a team of teachers who can deliver consistently high-quality lessons, and a meaningful and carefully structured curriculum. Alderman Knight has a very strong and committed community with staff playing an extended role in the life of the school and contributing in many ways over and above their daily teaching commitment.

Teachers are also form tutors and this pastoral role is a key role for teachers at AKS.  Currently we have five KS2 classes, ten KS3, seven KS4 and two KS5.

At Alderman Knight we enable staff to work to their strengths. However, it is important to us that our staff feel confident teaching and working with all our young people and so we provide plenty of opportunities to grow and develop knowledge and skills, including working in different key stages and providing high quality CPD. We welcome applications from ECTs as well as experienced teaching staff.

Commitment to safeguarding

Our organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff, volunteers and trustees to share this commitment.

Our recruitment process follows the keeping children safe in education guidance.

Offers of employment may be subject to the following checks (where relevant):
childcare disqualification
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
medical
online and social media
prohibition from teaching
right to work
satisfactory references
suitability to work with children

You must tell us about any unspent conviction, cautions, reprimands or warnings under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975.
