What skills and experience we're looking for

- Experience teaching pupils with additional needs.

- Practical knowledge of supporting pupils with SEMH needs

- Experience of successfully managing teaching assistants or other support colleagues

- A working knowledge of autism and its impacts on daily teaching and learning.

- Knowledge and understanding of recent developments in curriculum and assessment.

- Evidence of delivering successful adaptive teaching and learning.

- Good communication skills and interpersonal skills.

- Understanding of the management of challenging behaviour as a form of communication

- A commitment to supporting the positive ethos and values of the school.

- A practical understanding and experience of managing your own resilience and wellbeing.

- Ability to manage changes in your working roles and responsibilities, being solution focused.

We are seeking to appoint a new primary teacher to join our growing teaching team at this inclusive all-age special school. Hazel Oak supports a broad range of pupils with learning difficulties which include Autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome, social, emotional and mental health, speech, language and communication difficulties, plus more complex and medical needs. Communication, wellbeing, life skills and the functional use of core skills are central to our curriculum, which brings real life experience into learning.

The successful applicant will be required to deliver adapted national curriculum to meet the diverse needs of our learners, with regular opportunities to develop your pedagogy through collaborative team working, creating inspired experiences and cultural capital for all learners.
