Principal (Internal Applicants Only) job summary
Principal - Pilgrim Academy
Fixed Term – 1 January 2025 – 31 August 2025
At the end of the Academic year the postholder will revert to their substantive post and have the opportunity to apply for the permanent position.
We are seeking to recruit an exceptional individual to become Interim Principal of Pilgrim Academy in January 2025, with the potential for the position to become permanent from September 2025. The position has become available due to some recent changes at leadership level within the primary sector, with the current Principal moving to Theddlethorpe Academy at the end of the autumn term.
With a well-established reputation for excellence within the local community and beyond, Pilgrim Academy’s success is underpinned by dedicated staff, outstanding facilities and a philosophy of continual improvement. Outcomes at KS2 have gone from strength to strength, the combined figure for those pupils achieving reading, writing and mathematics improving every year since the school joined the trust in 2017. In 2025, results were significantly above the national average for the combined figure and above the national average at expected level and the higher standard in reading, writing, mathematics and grammar, punctuation and spelling. In addition, in 2025 Pilgrim Academy was awarded the Gold Standard Quality Mark for SMSC, through the Young Citizens organisation, highlighting its commitment to personal development.
This position provides a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious and energetic leader to work as part of an experienced and effective senior leadership team and supportive Trust in order to shape the direction of travel for the Academy and build upon its impressive achievements.
Pilgrim Academy joined the Trust in April 2017 and was judged to be ‘Good’ in all categories by OFSTED in January 2020, a significant improvement on previous inspections, prior to the school joining the Trust. We pride ourselves on providing a deep, broad and ambitious curriculum, with a key focus on ensuring accessibility for all pupils. Community is very important to us and our families play a crucial role in our continual development.
Pilgrim Academy sits in the highest band of deprivation and faces many challenges. It has 249 children on roll and contextual information includes 28% Pupil Premium; 10% EAL; 16% SEND and 3.6% pupils with an EHCP. We also have a high number of vulnerable children who receive support from our dedicated pastoral team and external agencies.
The Interim Principal will have a significant impact upon the lives and opportunities experienced by the young people of Immingham. The successful candidate will have experience of successful school leadership at a senior level and be ready for the next stage in their career. This person will be a dynamic and inspirational leader, possessing the intellect, experience and vision to drive further improvement and innovation at this already successful academy.
Importantly, we are looking for the right candidate to maintain and further develop a joint ethos of support, ambition, aspiration and inspiration for both our staff and children. All of our primary academies work closely together to help and support each other. Please visit our website www.pilgrimacademy.co.uk for further details, outlining areas such as curriculum, enrichment, key values and how we benefit from being part of Lincolnshire Gateway Academies Trust. The Trust can offer the postholder the regular support of the Executive Principal, CEO and Trust Central teams to facilitate a smooth transition into post.
Visits to the Academy are welcome by appointment from 18 November 2024. If you would like to request a tour or an informal discussion with our Executive Principal, please contact our HR team on 01472 502297 or hr@lincolnshiregateway.co.uk.
