Principal job summary

Are you looking for Headship in a Trust which understands the importance of knowledge in the development of our students’ education and do you believe that developing classroom pedagogy is a significant part of your job?

Do you want to be at the forefront of school improvement strategies which will drive Skegness Grammar School through to excellence?

Do you want to join us at an exciting time in the history of the Trust, as we make a significant step forward in our development?

We are a traditional grammar School, over 500 years old and steeped in history, and we continue to play an important role in our community, serving some of the most deprived wards in the country. Our boarding house attracts international students and we have an excellent reputation for our provision, endorsed also by Ofsted.

We understand the role our school plays in the local education landscape and therefore we strive for scholarly excellence for every child. Our students achieve high academic success and as a school we take pride in our confident, resilient and community focused pupils. The ethos of our school is based on the celebration of excellence in a caring, supportive environment which encourages pupils to achieve beyond their expectations and places strong emphasis on self-discipline, good manners and courtesy.

You’ll be an experienced leader who has vision, leadership skills and creativity to continue to drive Skegness Grammar Schools on its path to excellence. You’ll coach and develop our talented teaching staff and be an incredible, hands-on ambassador in the local community too. For the right candidate, this could well be the role you’ve always been looking for.

As part of DRET you will join our team of talented Principals who work together to live out the clear and exciting vision we have for the Trust in each of their schools.

The DRET vision for education is:
• Crafting an unbeatable learning climate through our Warm:Strict philosophy, we hold unapologetically high expectations for and of the students in our care. We have clear boundaries, rules and routines because students deserve to feel safe and calm in school.
• We value the acquisition of powerful knowledge as a goal in itself, as an entitlement for all children. We invest significant time and resource into ensuring that students gain a wide, broad knowledge base to enable them to become active members of their community in the future. Alongside a rigorous and challenging academic curriculum, students also experience a broad range of sport, art and musical opportunities ensuring that they have the richest experience a secondary education can give.
• Our teachers are subject experts and make use of evidence-based research to ensure that they pass on their knowledge to students in the most direct and effective ways, ensuring that it is learnt, remembered and that it supports every child to achieve their fullest potential.

You will bring a visible, whole-school leadership profile, and the ability to maximise the effectiveness of a high-performing and motivated staff group. You will be experienced in leading change across a large organization and you will be fully abreast of the latest thinking around curriculum and pedagogy. You will have a clear educational philosophy which aligns with the vision above, with experience of leading a school under a similar vision. The strongest candidates will also demonstrate the potential to make a system-level contribution across the Trust.

The David Ross Education Trust is committed to becoming one of the top-performing multi-academy trusts in the country. Recognised as a nationwide system leader, the Trust works with 34 primary and secondary schools across the country, ranging from small rural primaries with around 50 children, to much larger secondary schools in urban areas. Working together, with a shared ethos and values, our close-knit family of schools allows pupils to begin and continue their world-class academic journey throughout primary and secondary school within the David Ross Education Trust.
