Project Setup Manager for School Internal Alternative Provision job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for someone to spend a full year setting up, initially leading and managing a new internal alternative provision facility for Risedale Sports & Community College. This position allows the successful candidate to grow an entity from an idea into fruition and demonstrate their flair for creativity and impact, making a huge difference to the lives of some of our more vulnerable young people.

You will be joining a progressive school on an exciting journey of growth and development. Already renowned for its inclusive and nurturing ethos, Risedale has not stopped in its aim of ensuring every young person gets an education that supports their growth into adulthood. Recently awarded an Ofsted “Good” grade (November 2019) Risedale has a team of unfaltering practitioners at all levels who, daily, work incredibly hard to achieve the school’s aims.

The aim of this project is for a person to support the Behaviour and Curriculum Deputy Headteachers to create a facility of support, engagement, intervention and creativity to regain the trust of young people and nurture them into their own self-belief, increasing both their attendance and positive behaviours towards themselves and others. The types of young person who may need the help of this new facility will include:

● those at risk of exclusion,
● those who find managing their behaviours difficult,
● those who may have suffered from adverse childhood experiences,
● those who fear school and working with others.

Starting with the physical on-site locations of “The Hub” and “Lawrence House”, it will be up to the successful candidate to create policies, structures and practice that identify those who are vulnerable, liaise with partners to access training and real-life experiences for these pupils, develop new initiatives that support self-belief, organise the right academic and vocational support for individuals whilst accessing this provision, and to develop plans for pupils’ reintegration back into main school. All of this in support of our behaviour and attendance management team.

You do not need to be a teacher to take on this post, although full knowledge and experience of school and other learning settings is essential. More important to us for this role is the experiences you have had and the ideas you still have to nurture kindness, belief, commitment and empathy into our young people.

The successful candidate will be open to new ideas of working and committed to the philosophy of the whole Risedale team. The school requires resilience, hard work, adaptability, and a sense of humour. Risedale offers all employees bespoke ongoing training and support and a highly cohesive team.

Term Time Only plus 4 weeks - 37 hours per week

Closing Date: 12 a.m. midnight Sunday 15th November 2020

Interviews to be arranged: Week commencing 23rd November 2020

Risedale Sports and Community College is a smaller than the average sized secondary school and currently has 570+ students aged 11-16 years. It enjoys an enviable and growing reputation in its local community. It is expected to expand to between 600 and 800 students over the next decade as the population of Catterick Garrison increases and becomes a ‘Super Garrison’. Links with the Armed Forces are strong. The college has one of the largest proportions of service children (over 40%) of any secondary school in the UK. This military connection is an essential part of the college’s distinctive character.

Risedale was inspected by Ofsted in November 2019 and the glowing report which followed saw the school being judged as 'Good' in all four areas of appraisal which includes; The Quality of Education; Behaviour and Attitudes; Personal Development; Leadership and Management.
