Pupil and Parent Support Assistant job summary

The Avenue Primary School and Children’s Centre is looking to appoint a caring and dedicated Pupil and Parent Support Assistant to offer support to our pupils and their parents, with a particular focus on our military families.

Working Hours: Part-time (20 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 38 weeks per year, no Teacher Training Days). Contract: Fixed Term (until 22nd July 2026).

We are a vibrant co-educational, non-denominational primary school, educating children between the ages of 3 and 11. Located in the charming garrison town of Warminster, Wiltshire, our staff are dedicated to creating a safe and exciting place for children to thrive and learn. As a Pupil Parent Support worker, you will be required to provide a range of support to our children and their families, helping to address any challenges and improve outcomes. This may include helping children with SEN needs, behavioral, emotional and social development and communication skills, while also supporting parents with parenting techniques, family issues and providing advice on how to access to other support services.

We and are looking for someone who:

  • Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills and is able to work with a variety of pupils, staff, parents and external agencies;
  • Enjoys working with children and can develop positive working relationships with them;
  • Has superb attention to detail and organisational skills;
  • Has the ability to deal with new challenging situations;
  • Has previous experience in supporting children / families;
  • Has knowledge/experience of military life (or is willing to learn about it);
  • Is a strong team player, who is able to work effectively with our hardworking, talented and friendly team on whole school issues;
  • Is dedicated, self-motivated and consistent with a flexible attitude;
  • Is an active listener with the ability to be sympathetic and supportive, but firm when needed;
  • Understands and is sympathetic to the needs of young children;
  • Is committed to improving the life chances of all children;
  • Is willing to learn and attend relevant training.
