Pupil Progress Lead – Transform Student Achievement

The Hayling College is a small, forward-thinking secondary school located in Hampshire, serving 545 pupils aged 11-16. As a forward-thinking, rapidly improving, and award-winning institution, we are committed to providing an exceptional educational experience for our students.

Are you a passionate and driven teacher of English, Maths or Science with a track record of achieving strong student outcomes? Are you ready to take the next step in your career and play a pivotal role in driving pupil progress across a whole school? If so, we want to hear from you!

At The Hayling College, we are looking for an outstanding classroom practitioner to take on the role of Pupil Progress Lead — a key position aimed at improving achievement and outcomes for all learners, especially those at risk of underperforming.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a teacher who is looking to grow in leadership while still making a direct impact in the classroom. You will lead on pupil progress strategies, interventions, and data analysis, while continuing to teach your subject specialism at Key Stages 3 and 4.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching your subject specialism (English, Maths or Science) to KS3 and KS4 students.
  • Leading on the tracking and monitoring of pupil progress data, identifying gaps and trends.
  • Designing and overseeing intervention strategies to support identified learners.
  • Working with Heads of Department, pastoral leads, and senior leaders to raise achievement.
  • Championing a culture of high expectations, equity, and academic ambition across the school.
  • Opportunities to innovate and shape school-wide strategies

Candidate Profile:

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A qualified teacher (QTS or equivalent) in English, Maths or Science.
  • Proven success in raising achievement and supporting student progress.
  • Strong analytical skills and confidence using data to drive decision-making.
  • A collaborative leader with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Someone who is committed to inclusion, challenge, and closing the attainment gap.

Skills & Qualities:

  • Strong subject knowledge in English, Maths, or Science, with the ability to inspire and motivate students.
  • Proven ability to analyse data and translate it into effective classroom and whole-school interventions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • High level of organisation and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Experience or interest in leading or contributing to initiatives that raise achievement.
  • Skilled in using technology and school systems to track and monitor progress (e.g., Pupil Progress, Arbor, Excel).

Professionalism & Attitude:

  • A reflective practitioner who actively seeks to improve their practice and leadership skills.
  • Resilient, solution-focused, and calm under pressure
  • A role model for high expectations in behaviour, effort, and outcomes.
  • Committed to inclusive education and closing the attainment gap.
  • Collaborative and supportive, contributing positively to team and whole-school development.
  • Passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people.

This is an excellent opportunity to join our forward-thinking, rapidly improving, and award-winning school. If you share our passion for delivering exceptional education and are ready to make a lasting impact, we encourage you to apply.
