What skills and experience we're looking for

Leighton Primary and Preschool are seeking a dedicated Pupil Support Officer to join our pastoral team. This role is crucial in ensuring that our pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. You will work closely with pupils, parents, staff, and external agencies to improve behaviour, encourage attendance, and promote positive attitudes towards education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and mentor pupils with behavioural, emotional, and social difficulties.

  • Build strong, trust-based relationships with pupils to foster a supportive school environment.

  • Assist in promoting and upholding school policies, including Behaviour Management and Anti-Bullying.

  • Supervise corridors, dining areas, social spaces, and playgrounds to ensure a safe and structured environment.

  • Conduct investigations into behaviour-related incidents and report findings to the Senior Leadership Team.

  • Work closely with the SENDCO to provide additional support to vulnerable pupils.

  • Deliver and monitor targeted intervention activities aimed at improving pupil behaviour and reintegration into school life.

  • Liaise with external agencies to secure additional support where necessary.

  • Maintain accurate records on Arbor and contribute to reports for staff and governors regarding behaviour trends.

  • Support the promotion of attendance and punctuality by liaising with families and addressing barriers to school engagement.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working in a pastoral or pupil support role within a school setting.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.

  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and child protection policies.

  • Experience managing behaviour and promoting positive attitudes towards learning.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team while also taking initiative.

  • Strong administrative skills, with experience in record-keeping and data protection compliance.

  • ELSA training or willingness to undertake relevant training is desirable.
