- the ability to motivate, inspire and stimulate curiosity, interest and enjoyment across all service users;
- the ability to be an excellent practitioner with up to date skills;
- high expectations for all service users;
- good team skills;
- experience of teaching pupils with visual impairments and an appropriate qualifications.
What the school offers its staff
The Warwickshire Vision Support Service leads and manages the specialist support services on behalf of Warwickshire County Council, providing outreach support for children with visual impairments from birth to 25 years in homes, early years’ settings, schools and colleges.
The service is based at Exhall Grange Specialist School and whilst managed independently, has strong links with the school.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced practitioner to join a growing service, which is well established, friendly and supportive. The team consists of QTVIs, Habilitation Officers and Specialist TAs who deliver high quality support across Warwickshire.
As part of the team, you will:-
- have your own caseload which you will be expected to manage. To support you in your role, you will receive regular supervision from your line manager;
- provide peripatetic teaching support, training and advice to children and young people with a visual impairment, parents/carers, educational and other professionals across a variety of settings;
- offer tailored advice and support for staff working with visually impaired learners;
- forge good relationships with key partners and parents/carers;
- through assessment and observation, make clear, targeted recommendations to schools and placements;
- conduct functional vision assessments;
- be required to travel throughout the County, so you must be a licenced vehicle owner with business insurance on your vehicle.

Exhall Grange Specialist School is a county-wide specialist provision for pupils aged between 4 and 19 on the outskirts of Coventry. The school meets the needs of pupils who are unable to access the curriculum in a mainstream school owing to their sensory impairment or physical disabilities or the impact of long-term illness or social communication difficulties including autism.
Whilst we are currently a Community Maintained Specialist Provision, we are on the journey to Academisation with conversion from 1 September 2025.
Many of our children and young people are physically or emotionally extremely vulnerable or have life limiting conditions. Some of our pupils are highly anxious and require our calm, predictable and nurturing environment in order to access school.
We are committed to ensuring all our pupils reach their full potential and encourage all of our pupils and staff to “Be Your Best Self” which encapsulates our core purpose.
All pupils follow the National Curriculum at a level appropriate to their ability and needs. We are destination driven and focus on developing the skills our pupils need for independence, employment and life.
