What skills and experience we're looking for

Do you have experience in supporting school welfare? We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Progress and Reflection Room Lead & Behaviour Mentor to join our strong and committed team at Harris Academy Chobham.

We would like to hear from you if you have:

  • GCSE qualifications in English and Mathematics at Grade C/4 or above
  • A level qualification(s) or equivalent
  • Understanding of the importance of students achieving their full potential
  • Working with a range of students with behaviour needs
  • Good knowledge of working with parents/carers/external agencies and delivering intervention programmes to individual groups of students
  • Commitment to raising student aspirations
  • Be able to work in a flexible way
  • Sensitivity to complex situations
  • Energy and enthusiasm to improve the learning of all students
  • Good communication skills
  • Effective skills to relate to young people, often with complex needs
  • Confidence and presence in communicating and working with young people

Further details about the role

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising students who are internally excluded
  • Designing, structuring and developing the curriculum on offer for the students attending the reflection room and the re-integration back into mainstream lessons
  • Liaising with teaching staff to ensure appropriate work is set and appropriate provision is in place
  • Liaising with parents/ carers and relevant HoYs, APs and subject staff to ensure smooth transition to and from internal exclusion
  • Maintaining a calm and purposeful learning environment
  • Following up on any truancy or attendance concerns
  • Reducing potential permanent exclusion by offering an alternative curriculum which includes rigorous behaviour for learning intervention
  • Being a role model for the students in the reflection room
  • Mentoring students needing extra pastoral support to access the curriculum
  • Supporting the consistent implementation of the academy Behaviour for Learning policy
  • Managing the calm and purposeful entrance and exit of students into/out of the academy, including organising line-ups where appropriate, and around the academy between lessons
  • Working with other members of the pastoral team to ensure students are monitored and supervised before school, during break and throughout lunch
  • Managing after school reflections
