Location: Challney High School for Boys

Contract Type: Permanent, Term time plus five training days

Hours of work: 37 hours per week

Salary: L7 - Actual salary starting from £29,504 per annum

Over view of the job

We are looking for someone who can positively engage children, parents/carers and their families in partnership with other agencies so that the school effectively meets the needs of children and young people.

You will be working with our DSL and Pastoral Teams to promote, develop and implement strategies to engage and support families.

Purpose of the post

To work alongside the Designated Safeguarding Lead to support students in their learning and encourage positive attitudes and behaviour in and around school.

Champion safeguarding and student welfare across the school, sharing best practice and ensuring that school policy is enacted in practice.

Encourage a culture of listening to children and taking account of their wishes and feelings in any measures the School may put in place to protect them.

Ensure the School’s Safeguarding & Child Protection policies are known, understood and used appropriately.

Support teachers, tutors and support staff working directly with identified students with additional safeguarding and welfare needs. This includes providing accurate, up to date information about students.

Work with the DSL to ensure that support is always available for staff in the school to discuss any safeguarding concerns.

Maintain accurate, detailed and up to date student Child Protection records via CPOMS. This includes record keeping during DSL monitoring meetings and prompting discussion about vulnerable children and families. Ensure that the outcomes of these meetings are appropriately communicated, that actions are carried out.

Support the DSL in ensuring parents, Governors and other appropriate members of the school community have access to appropriate safeguarding documentation.

Support the DSL to ensure cases of suspected abuse are referred to the appropriate body, supporting staff and students through this process as required.

Work proactively with the Safeguarding and Pastoral teams, at times visiting homes of vulnerable students to improve parental engagement with a view to improving student attendance.

Undertake other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Head of Safeguarding, Safeguarding officer or senior leaders.
