SAFEGUARDING OFFICER St Mary's Catholic Academy, Blackpool, Lancashire

Job description

The Directors are seeking to appoint a Safeguarding Officer to support our Designated Safeguarding Lead in ensuring high levels of safeguarding are in place for pupils at our Academy.

The post is permanent, full time (37 hours per week), full year. Hours of work each day are: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8.20 am to 4.15 pm and on Thursday from 8.20 am to 3.20 pm – with 20 minutes for lunch each day. The post is paid on Grade G (Points 25-28) of the new NJC salary scale – the approximate actual starting salary on Point 25 is £28,785. Annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year, requiring these to be taken in school holiday time only.

Essential educational requirements

NNEB, Level 4 relating to children & young people, BTEC in childhood studies or equivalent 3 years experience.

GSCE English or equivalent.

Essential qualifications

GSCE English or equivalent.

Skills:
• Good literacy, numeracy skills and ICT skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Effective organisation
• Confidence to work independently
• Ability and willingness to develop and deliver small group training.
• Ability and willingness to ensure good discipline and adherence to Academy rules.
• Ability to work on one’s own initiative, balance competing priorities and organise a work schedule.
• Ability to motivate children/young people by establishing empathic and supportive working relationships.

Experience:
• Experience of working effectively with vulnerable people in either education, social work, youth work or another related area of work.
• Extensive experience of working effectively with the parents /carers of children/young people.
• Previous experience of attending and participate in child protection core groups and conferences as required by Local Authority and Social Services.
