‘Staff morale is high with staff welcoming the open conversations about teaching, and they welcome the ways leaders encourage the evaluation and sharing of what works’ Ofsted 2019
‘I just love coming to work every morning, this school is fantastic; amazing teachers, lovely students and a fantastic community to work in. The welcoming feel of the school and the staff and children in it just made me feel like I belonged right from the start, and I still feel this way a year later’

Why come and join our school?

Scalby School is a successful and popular 11-16 community school and in recent years we have become the school of choice in our local community. We were judged ‘good’ by Ofsted in 2019 and in 2019 we celebrated sustained results. Our provisional P8 score places us in the top 20% of schools nationally again. We are proud of our broad and balanced GCSE based curriculum.

Our students are diverse, exciting and talented – and the same is true of our staff. We put huge emphasis on professional development, most of it in-house, and are proud of the highly effective teaching and pastoral support, which characterises our school. We are also noted for our ‘can do’ attitude.

We are:

• A ‘Good’ school in every area as judged by Ofsted in 2012 and in 2019

• A school with above average Progress 8 score because our students exceed expectations.

• A leading school in the Scarborough and North Yorkshire area with a real focus on making sure all our staff develop professionally.

• A school where the development of the culture and character of our students is at the heart of our curriculum – so that all our students leave school knowing how to conduct themselves in the wider world.

Our Trust

Coast and Vale Learning Trust is a growing family of schools based across the the North Yorkshire Coast and Wolds and Vale. We have grown from our lead secondary school (Scalby School), welcomed Newby Scalby Primary in 2018, Friarage Primary School in 2019 and Lady Lumley’s School in 2021.

We are growing organically and firmly building on the school improvement journeys of Scalby School, Newby Scalby Primary and Friarage Primary School. As a Trust of currently 4 schools (with continued growth), it is right that we make sure that we have the right team to deliver the best possible education to our children and young people.

Our Opportunity

Due to the well-deserved retirement of our current post holder we are looking to appoint into the important post of Attendance Officer.
As our new Attendance Officer you will be responsible for aspects of attendance including the monitoring, recording and reporting of absence of students across years 7 to 11. You will be a point of contact with parents and carers with regards to student absence and liaise with external agencies such as the local authority on matters of student attendance.
As well as collating information about attendance and identifying those whose attendance is causing concern, you will be working with students, families and other agencies to ensure that all students are attending school regularly and are then able to achieve their best.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an astute and highly motivated colleague to join our school administration team. This opportunity will appeal to prospective colleagues looking for further development in a school support role, or for someone who is interested in working within education.
We understand that no one is a finished article and you may not have experience in all the areas we are looking for. It is essential you have as an minimum experience in working with young people.

Naturally being part of a very busy school office you will find no day is exactly the same! We welcome interest from colleagues looking to develop further across all sectors (not just education).
You will be supported in your role by working closely with our Senior Pastoral Leader and other pastoral colleagues.

What we can offer in return:

• An excellent opportunity for a support colleague to develop within our school and our Trust that is rapidly growing.
• The opportunity for training and development – both through within the trust and the school.
• School and trust colleagues who will support you and make you proud to work in education.
• Access to our Teaching Alliance – Scarborough Teaching Alliance if you are interested in becoming a trainee teacher in the future.

Join our school and make a real difference to our children and your career in an area that offers so much!

The date of commencement for these post will be in as soon possible in October 2021 Interviews will be held week shortly after the closing date.

Dear applicant,

Allow me to extend a warm welcome from all governors, staff and students of Scalby School.

I was delighted to be appointed Headteacher in January 2018 and while any Head will say their school is special – I truly believe Scalby is.

It is hard to encapsulate in words the full dynamism and vibrancy of our school. We are hugely proud of our students and privileged to serve them and this community. We see it as our professional and moral duty to prepare them as individuals to play their part as active citizens – rounded and centred and aware of all they might contribute to the world. In practical terms, this commitment is manifested in the lessons we deliver, the extra-curricular opportunities we offer and in the wider opportunities we promote.

Scalby is a school with a strong academic tradition but we are equally committed to the Arts, to sport and to collective and individual achievement beyond the classroom. Our annual productions held at the Stephen Joseph theatre are testament to this, and over the years we have seen productions of Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, Our House to name but a few.

We have developed and benefited from our partnerships within Scalby Learning Trust, Scarborough Teaching Alliance and local secondary and primaries – a few reasons to join us!

In recent years enormous strides have been made to further increase learning standards. This hard work has seen results improve consistently and led to Ofsted rating our school as ‘Good’ in 2012 and in 2019. I truly believe we are a school with highly effective teachers and support staff producing outstanding outcomes for our students.

I hope you can see that this is an excellent time to join Scalby. If successful you will join a staff team of wonderful professionals who have ambition for our students and for themselves. I take pride in ensuring colleagues receive opportunities to develop their skills and experiences – and we have an enviable reputation for delivering high quality professional development.

I hope that you will take the time to come and see and experience for yourself the warm and welcoming atmosphere which makes our vision a reality.

Good luck with your application.

Chris Robertson
