What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking a colleague who shares our aspiration of ‘Growing together in wisdom and love; discovering life in all its fullness’; who supports our school values of respect, kindness, courage, creativity and independence and is sympathetic to our Christian foundation.

As a Single Academy Trust the school employs all the staff and is responsible to the DfE for meeting the requirements of the Academy Trust Handbook. Wiltshire Council provide our HR, Payroll and Accounting and Budget support, while South Gloucestershire conduct our internal audits.

The School Business Manager will be a member of the school’s Senior Leadership Team, and as such you will be encouraged to initiate and drive change. We are seeking a committed and dynamic team player who is able to work flexibly. Elements of the role could potentially be carried out working from home and, since you would not be working directly with children, some holidays could be taken in term time by mutual agreement. There is a requirement to report to termly Governors’ meetings which are generally held on the evening.

Ideally the successful applicants will possess breadth and depth of experience in finance along with relevant finance / accounting or School Business Manager qualifications. High quality, transferable skills from a business environment or previous experience of the academy sector would be advantageous.

The successful candidates will:

  • Work within the school leadership team, providing specialist advice and guidance to its members on finance and budget planning/reporting
  • Work as part of a team on human resources, premises, facilities and project management.
  • Line manage the school’s office, catering and site staff.
  • Oversee income generation (including lettings, wrap-around childcare and grant applications).
  • Have excellent administration and organisational skills and be unflappable in a crisis.
  • Possess finely honed communication and interpersonal skills and know how to use them to effectively reach different audiences.

What the school offers its staff
