School Business Manager job summary
We are seeking an inspirational and dedicated School Business Manager to play a vital role in supporting the smooth and effective running of the school.
Working closely with the Headteacher and senior leadership team, the School Business Manager will oversee the planning, development and delivery of the school’s support functions — including finance, HR, administration, facilities and health and safety — ensuring that resources are used efficiently to support high-quality education aligned with our school’s vision and values.
This post includes one day each week dedicated to supporting the finances of DSPL1 (Delivering Specialist Provision Locally), for which William Ransom is the Lead School. This day may be split across the working week and managed flexibly to ensure time is used as effectively as possible.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead on all financial matters under the direction of the Headteacher to ensure the school’s successful financial performance and alignment with strategic goals.
Manage the school’s support functions, including finance, HR, administration, IT, facilities, and health & safety (in collaboration with the Site Manager).
Line manage and support the professional development of support staff, including the Office Manager and Site Manager.
Provide accurate financial analysis, statutory reporting and budget monitoring for the Headteacher, Governing Body and relevant external agencies.
Oversee procurement, service contracts, insurance and licences in collaboration with SLT and other key staff.
Support income generation and grant applications to enhance the school’s financial sustainability.
Ensure compliance with all health and safety requirements, including training and risk management.
Proven experience in school business management or a similar role in an educational setting.
Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets and financial systems.
Excellent organisational and leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team.
Good working knowledge of safeguarding, data protection and health and safety legislation.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with staff, parents and external partners.
A proactive, flexible approach and a genuine commitment to the school’s vision and values.
Contract: Term time plus 6 weeks (including all INSET days and 1-2 days before each term starts; any remaining days to be agreed).
Meetings: Attendance at Governing Body Resources Committee meetings is required (one evening per term).
Location: The role is based onsite full time. From September 2026, there may be an opportunity to work virtually for up to one day per week, depending on school circumstances.
