School Caretaker job summary

The School Caretaker is a key role in maintaining the operation of the academy site both during the school day and during school closure periods, to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for the whole academy community. We are looking for an individual to join the Premises Team who is flexible, enthusiastic and reliable.

This is a full time, all year round position, with 26 days annual leave, rising to 29 days after 5 years service completed. The working hours are 37 hours per week, worked on a rotating shift basis to cover opening/closing of the school site. The working days are predominantly Monday to Friday with occasional Saturdays as paid additional hours.

OAT support all staff so that they can enhance and develop their professional skills whatever their role within the trust.

The main purpose of the role is to provide assistance and support in the maintenance, caretaking and janitorial requirements of the school sites to ensure the safety, security, sound condition and general appearance of the buildings, facilities, sports areas, this includes being a keyholder for the site for opening and closing the school site and attending site in an emergency. The role also includes being a driver for the school minibus for Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy staff and students to various off-site locations. Our ideal candidate must:

  • Be a competent user of IT with good written and oral communication skills
  • Have knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding and the ability to establish positive working relationships with students, staff and visitors.
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to work effectively as part of a team and competent to work alone. Be able to perform the physical demands and working conditions of the role, and to become first aid trained if required.
  • Have a full, clean driving licence with entitlement to drive a minibus und a B licence (older than 21 years old and held driving licence for at least 2 years, if over 70, drivers must ensure they meet the higher D1 health regulations)
