Overall purpose of the job:
To assist in the preparation, serving, and clearing of nutritious meals and snacks for children attending BIS and our after-school club (The BEST Club), ensuring high standards of hygiene, safety, and customer care. Using large catering equipment and appliances to prepare and deliver the food safely in compliance with our healthy foods criteria. We are looking for someone who thrives when working independently. You’ll spend part of your day working solo in the kitchen, so confidence, initiative, and the ability to stay focused without supervision are essential.
Main duties are:
Prepare simple meals and snacks following agreed menus and portion guidelines. Contribute to creating menus and make appropriate adaptations for children’s dietary needs.
Serve food to children in a friendly and efficient manner. Ensure dietary requirements and allergies are strictly adhered to.
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen and dining areas. Follow food safety standards (including temperature checks and storage). Comply with school and statutory health and safety regulations.
Assist with stock rotation and basic inventory checks. Report any shortages or equipment issues promptly.
Work collaboratively with The BEST Club staff to ensure smooth meal service. Communicate effectively with colleagues about menu changes or special requirements.
Support with clearing tables, washing up, and tidying the kitchen after service.
Able to work confidently and effectively without supervision for a proportion of the day, particularly in a kitchen environment. Must demonstrate initiative, reliability, and the ability to maintain high standards when working alone.
Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school
Qualifications required:
Good Numeracy and Literacy skills
A full driver’s license
Level 2 Food Hygiene
7061/7062 Catering for Hospitality and the Industry (preferred not essential)
School kitchen experience preferred but catering experience is essential.
