School Nurse job summary

Landau Forte College is looking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic School Nurse. You will provide students and staff with first aid support, keep and maintain student health records and draw up individual health care plans for students, in liaison with parents/ carers and outside agencies. We want our School Nurse to play an active role in school life, working closely with pastoral staff to enhance our offer of student support. *Job description

Reporting directly to the Assistant Principal for Inclusion, the School Nurse has responsibility for the health and welfare of all students, and to oversee the medical room, maintaining an active and regular point of contact for all students

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
•Provide first aid treatment as required.
•Oversee the Medical Room, including coordinating the staffing of the Medical Room
•Maintain student files and dispense medication to students as advised by parents/carers. Ensure the security and delivery of controlled medicines.
•Decide when further medical attention is required and support students if requiring hospital treatment, including attending Accident and Emergency as required and contacting parents/ carers to advise on situation.
•Organise and deliver the immunisation programme within school
•Provide health screening opportunities and advice and guidance to students and staff.
•To carry out specified medical care procedures as necessary.
•To provide personal, social, hygiene, welfare and behaviour support for students.
•To contribute to the PSHE programme and delivery of specific health related subjects. Take an active role in delivering student assemblies and tutor time activities
•Write, maintain and update medical health care plans
•Take responsibility for writing and updating the Medical Policy
•Take an active role in identifying training needs for staff and resolving this need through delivery of training / coordinating relevant training
•Complete home visits where required
•Identify wider health needs and coordinate small group student intervention
•Work alongside and liaise with the health colleagues/ relevant stakeholders in the local authority, particularly the linked Local Authority School Health Nurse
•Take an active role, alongside the pastoral team, in generating and implementing strategies to support students reduce their dependency or frequent visits to the medical room
•Act as the lead practitioner for students with complex medical needs; liaison, meetings and updates with all stakeholders
•Any other appropriate duties and responsibilities relevant to the post as directed by the Chief Executive Officer, Principal, Vice Principals, or Assistant Principals.
