What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Premises Manager to join our team as soon as possible. The successful candidate will support the Headteacher by managing the school premises, including building maintenance, cleanliness, security and maintenance of furnishings, fixtures, plant and heavy equipment. Responsibilities also include overseeing external contractors and managing other premises staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting risk assessments for security risks and arranging security checks
  • Maintaining premises security and responding to call-outs
  • Managing fire safety equipment and conducting fire and emergency evacuation drills
  • Ensuring health and safety compliance and safe working practices
  • Managing energy consumption and preventing waste
  • Overseeing cleaning materials and equipment, and managing porterage of stock, furniture and equipment
  • Liaising with external contractors and monitoring their work
  • Ensuring satisfactory levels of cleanliness and hygiene inside and outside of the school premises
  • Managing health and safety risk assessments and compliance with policies
  • Managing the premises function and premises staff, including performance management and training

Person specification:

  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence
  • Effective team working and collaborative relationships
  • Organisational awareness and adaptability
  • Relevant experience in senior caretaking / site-keeping in a school or similar environment
  • Management / supervisory experience is desirable
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures, COSHH regulations and moving and handling procedures
  • Relevant Level 4 qualification or equivalent experience
  • Willingness to undertake appropriate first aid training
