Science Laboratory Technician job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Larkmead School for or the position of Science Technician. This is a part-time role for 20 hours per week during the term-time only. You may be required to work some inset days by arrangement. You will be working as a part of a small team supporting teaching staff within the Science Department.

Applicants should be educated to GCSE Level or equivalent, and have a Level 2 Science qualification or knowledge of Science equivalent to Level 2. You will require some ICT skills, well organised, flexible and a good communicator. Training will be provided.

Principal responsibilities:

  • The preparation of apparatus, chemicals and resources for Science lessons.
  • The removal and cleaning of equipment including laboratory surfaces and sinks after lessons.
  • Maintaining supplies of teaching materials such as worksheets, textbooks and stationery.
  • Maintenance of equipment.
  • Safety checks.
  • Keeping up to date with Health and Safety requirements (CLEAPSS).
  • Stock control of equipment and chemicals.
  • Opening and shutting down laboratories at the start and close of teaching sessions.
  • Administrative tasks such as photocopying, collating exam papers, preparing the resources for cover lessons, maintaining records and text book lists.
