Science Lead Practitioner job summary
Co-op Academy Failsworth
We are looking for a Science Lead Practitioner to join our Science department.
The Science department at Co-op Academy Failsworth is a forward thinking dynamic team that focuses on delivering a high quality of education. We are an accomplished team consisting of Biologists, Chemists and Physicists who teach across all key stages. We aim to ensure that all lessons are engaging and challenging to allow all our learners to achieve above and beyond their expected outcomes. We do this through an investigative approach that compliments the use of a wide range of pedagogy.
The Science Team are housed in modern well-equipped laboratories that are well resourced with each laboratory containing an interactive whiteboard or touch screen TV. Our students have the opportunity to use a wide range of laboratory equipment and we have a fully stocked prep room with lots of equipment for practicals and demos, this can all be booked through our two technicians.
We are a large team that is supported by a Head of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, a Lead Practitioner, two science technicians and a cover supervisor. We have a Science office located next to our laboratories, which provides our team with the opportunity to share good practice. We encourage the engagement of our students with a range of extra-curricular activities ranging from a Science club to intervention, personalised revision, breakfast clubs, a yearly Science fair and a variety of trips.
Our hardworking Science team has developed a strong, captivating 5 year curriculum. This has been established to allow students to grow both their substantive and disciplinary knowledge. Our curriculum has lots of opportunities for demonstrations and practicals as well as developing students' writing and oracy skills. At GCSE we offer AQA combined and triple science and our results regularly meet or exceed the national average.
We run weekly CPD, which is tailored to the needs of our team. CPD is always evidenced based and staff have the opportunity to trial new pedagogies before implementing. We often collaborate with STEM learning, the Ogden trust, AQA and the IOP to provide further training where appropriate. Our resources are made in house and shared across the team, ensuring that all students receive high quality teaching.
Across all key stages our enthusiastic, dedicated team endeavour to deliver vibrant, thought-provoking lessons embedding scientific expertise and our Co-op values that will allow our pupils to enjoy a successful future. The science team works as a cohesive unit and often enjoys opportunities to relax outside of the work environment also.
