Science Research Lead job summary
We are looking for a highly motivated and committed science teacher with a passion for Science and a keen interest in educational research to join our school as our Science Research Lead. The successful candidate will lead the school’s work in evidence-informed science teaching, working closely with the Head of Department and other science colleagues to help make better use of research findings in science lessons. They will also teach Science up to Key Stage 4 (up to Key Stage 5 would be desirable) and play a central role in the Science department, with the highest ambitions for learning and rigorously high expectations.
For the right candidate, there will also be the opportunity to work within the Research School, helping to support our growing network of schools and developing and leading internal and external training programmes, primarily for secondary science, but also in relation to other areas of school improvement. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established department and make a contribution to its ambitious vision for the future.
The successful candidate will have a detailed knowledge of the evidence base for improving secondary science curriculum and teaching and learning, combined with excellent subject knowledge, a genuine passion for teaching Science and detailed knowledge of current curriculum and pedagogical developments in science and the wider curriculum. A desire to raise overall achievement in Science through promoting the highest standards of teaching and learning is essential.
Science is very popular at Greenshaw: many students choose to study it up to Key Stage 5, with a number of students opting to study one of the sciences at degree level. Science is delivered by a large, innovative and ambitious team of specialists, who aim to nurture, promote and develop students’ understanding and enjoyment of their subject through methodology and practice. The team work together collaboratively, with everyone making their own valuable contributions to ensure the development and success of the department.
