Sir James Smith’s is one of the smaller comprehensive schools in Cornwall. It is situated within a large rural catchment with approximately 70% of students travelling daily by bus. Student numbers are set to increase significantly over the next 3 – 5 years and this appointment will ensure the school continues to provide the very best experience for both students and parents/carers. Being a small school, one of its strengths is the relationship built between staff and students. This is a school where all staff know each other well and take a collaborative approach to supporting wellbeing and professional development. Surveys such as the Pupil Attitude to School and Self repeatedly indicate students feel safe and have a healthy respect for their teachers, they like coming to school. Last inspected in 2016 when the school secured a ‘Good’ judgement for the first time in its history, it is currently into the third year of a five year plan to be judged ‘Outstanding’, this appointment will make a positive contribution to that ambition.
