What skills and experience we're looking for

Mangotsfield School is excited to be recruiting for a science teacher to join our successful, collaborative and supportive faculty. If you have the desire to make a positive impact on young children and want to join a team of dedicated staff, then we would love to hear from you. We are open to both part time (0.6FTE and above) and full time candidates. This role would be ideal for an ECT ready to join their first school, or a more experienced practitioner.

About the Role

Having received a rating of Good from Ofsted at our last inspection, you will be joining us on our journey to ensuring that Mangotsfield is an ever improving school that lies at the heart of a close knit community.

The science department has an ambitious, well sequenced and knowledge led curriculum which both supports and challenges students throughout. The team have collaboratively written a successful curriculum which is delivered throughout. The core elements include retrieval, diagnostic questions, deliberate practice and metacognition. Our key stage three curriculum develops knowledge and skills which support students through either triple or combined science at GCSE.

We pride ourselves on our CPD support, both at school and Trust level. We also have a central Trust education team who support and deliver high quality training. In addition, we deliver comprehensive ECT induction in association with the Five Counties Teaching Schools Hubs Alliance and Ambition Institute.

What the school offers its staff

Mangotsfield School has been recognised by Ofsted as a “rapidly improving, community focused, ambitious school.” In March 2022 we were awarded Good in all categories, a testament to the vision and dedication of the leadership and teaching body.

Mangotsfield School has a strong ethos built on our four values. In all aspects of school life we encourage students to love learning, embrace challenge, give and earn respect and grow our community. Our classrooms, our corridors and our systems are built on these values: this supports our culture where we can meet individual needs and close the gaps for our students.

Mangotsfield School is a local secondary school firmly rooted in, and proudly working within, the community which it serves. The school is situated in pleasant semi-rural surroundings on the north-

eastern outskirts of Bristol. Mangotsfield School became an academy as part of the Castle School Education Trust in September 2015 and works in partnership with Downend School to deliver 16-19

opportunities for all students. We are committed to the professional development of all staff.

We can offer you:

  • Commitment to CPD and development of all staff
  • Commitment to inclusivity and fostering of diversity
  • Values and vision that are lived not laminated
  • Open and honest culture
  • Up to 30% discount with Microsoft & Dell
  • Discounted gym membership
  • Life Assurance - 3 x Death in Service
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Dedicated counselling service

Commitment to safeguarding

Mangotsfield School and Castle School Education Trust (CSET) are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Successful candidates are subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Everything at Mangotsfield School is based around its school
values driven by Headteacher, Hetty Blackmore. Having first
joined the school as a newly qualified teacher when she was
23 years old and returned to lead it later in her career, she is
very proud of the journey the school is on.

Mangotsfield School is proud to serve its community and has
been part of the local community since 1957. They have just
celebrated being rated as a ‘Good’ school by Ofsted (visit
March 2022).

There are wonderful resources and facilities on site, allowing
students to embrace curricular and extra-curricular
challenges from DT, art, dance, drama and a climbing wall to
name a few. There is a lot of open space, which is green and
calm. And this sense of calm is echoed in the school itself.
The school has a proud sporting history and teams have
travelled as far as Wembley to take part in national
competitions. The school is also on a mission to broaden
horizons with many co-curricular trips taking place, such as a
Year 7 trip to Slimbridge Wetlands for art research and a
Year 8 trip to Tyntesfield House to explore gothic horror
within the English curriculum.
