What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking an inspirational and enthusiastic Teacher of Science who is committed to delivering an exceptional science education for our young people. Innovation, dedication, and the ability to teach scientific concepts with clarity and precision are qualities we look for, and you will be able to enthuse and motivate our students with your passion for science and classroom presence. Our science department is on journey to becoming extraordinary, and we welcome applications from both experienced colleagues and Early Career Teachers, to join our supportive and forward-thinking science team.
What the school offers its staff
The Science Faculty is incredibly well resourced, with excellent science labs and a highly-capable and effective technician team to support the best standards of practical work. We offer a bespoke curriculum in KS3, and offer both Combined and Separate science at KS4. In our VI Form we currently offer A Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Psychology, along with BTEC Human Biology and BTEC Psychology, which are all very popular, although we are able to retain small VI Form class sizes.
Science is uniquely placed at the Academy due to the extraordinary
opportunities offered to our students. As a consequence, the uptake in GCSE and
A level separate sciences is significant and continues to grow.
In 2016, CSIA opened NEXUS, its Centre of Excellence for STEM and Liberal Arts (NLA) for 11-16 learners which is situated on its own unique campus. At Post 16, students from all over the county can study at Cornwall School of Mathematics and Science (CSMS), which is part of our VI Form provision. The aim is to develop young learners who are able to pick and choose from the best courses at the very best universities worldwide; young people who have a wealth of research experience from working with some of the best academics in their field of interest.
Science is a high achieving and dynamic faculty. At A level, student progress is in the top 10% of the country and CSMS students achieve over 85% A* - A. The VI Form Academy offers Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Human Biology and Psychology and 25% of our intake at Post 16 is from schools outside of the catchment area.
