What skills and experience we're looking for

  • A relevant degree- Essential
  • Qualified Teacher Status- Essential

Experience: applicants should be able to demonstrate recent and relevant experience of:

  • Experience of teaching Science at Key Stage 3 and 4
  • A range of successful classroom practice in a secondary school.
  • Experience of using a variety of teaching, learning and assessment strategies
  • Monitoring and evaluation of learning and teaching, leading to effective planning to raise standards
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Effective involvement with parents and other professionals
  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of the National Curriculums at Key Stages 3 and 4 in Science

  • How to analyse, understand, interpret and respond to school performance data

  • Encouraging parents and carers to work co-operatively with the school and involve them in their children’s education.

  • A thorough knowledge of good practice in relation to safeguarding and child protection

  • How Science can be taught creatively to maximise children’s engagement, progress and attainment

  • A positive and effective approach to behaviour management

  • The role of the class teacher in relation to Special Educational Needs and how to work effectively as part of a SEND/Inclusion Team

  • The assessment and review of pupils’ progress and development

  • How learning opportunities in Science can be developed through a project-based learning approach

  • Excellent understanding of curriculum and pedagogical issues, particularly those related to the learning and development of older children

  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of Science at secondary level

  • Promote and sustain high standards for all children

  • Understand and value the process of monitoring, evaluating and review as an aid to raising standards
  • Ability to contribute to self-evaluation exercises and whole school development

  • Inspire and motivate the pupils and staff to influence the quality of learning and teaching and initiate change

  • Share expertise, skills and knowledge and to encourage others to follow suit

  • Seek advice and support when necessary

  • Have personal impact and presence to be able to initiate change and achieve excellence

  • Be creative, innovative and resilient whilst being fully supported by the Key Stage 3/4 teaching team

  • Demonstrate a high level of commitment and professionalism

  • Be a good team player and be able to lead and inspire by being an excellent role model
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Be able to work independently and on own initiative

  • Have good time management skills and an ability to plan and prioritise work and tasks for you and your phase team

  • Maintain a personal commitment to professional development linked to the competencies necessary to deliver the requirements of this post

What the school offers its staff

Based in the centre of Liverpool, our school, sponsored by The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, opened in September 2014. We provide children with a broad and balanced curriculum and have a particular focus on the creative and performing arts. We currently have 545 children from Reception to Year 9. From September 2024, we will have children in Reception- Year 10, across two sites.
