We are seeking an outstanding individual to join our successful English department as Second in Charge. This post would suit someone looking to progress into leadership or grow existing skills. About the role:
- To teach English to an excellent standard to all Key Stage 3 and 4 year groups
- To assist in leading (as second in charge) the raising and maintaining standards of student attainment and achievement in the English department
- To promote learning and to monitor, support and be accountable for student progress in English
- To ensure consistently high level of professionalism is maintained
- To promote the school’s belief in creating a safe environment for students through robust safeguarding practices and maintaining an environment where students feel confident to approach any member of staff with a concern

About HISP Trust:
HISP Multi Academy Trust believe in building excellent educational environments that inspire and unlock potential in all our school communities. We currently have multipleschools within our Trust covering the age ranges from nursery to 16 with plans to expand and grow quickly across our geographical location.
Whilst we are currently a small Trust, we are ambitious and have a broad range of outward facing accreditations that support our schools and those within our local area. Thornden School is part of the HISP Multi Academy Trust, which was formed in January 2020. As a MAT, we aim to ensure that our schools have strong and talented leadership and staff, who in turn will ensure that the young people who are in each of the MAT schools have access to excellent education, support and wider opportunities.

In the results for 2019, 90% of our students achieved 5 or more 9-4 grades including English and Maths and 54% achieved the English Baccalaureate. Our value added performance was 0.65 in 2019 which puts the school at the top of the league tables for Hampshire. We had anticipated even better performance and outcomes for 2020.
Thornden is a busy and dynamic school with a strong focus on developing the whole child. We have a vibrant performing arts department that encourages students to embrace a rich cultural education beyond the more traditional subjects. Alongside our formal curriculum provision, we offer a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities including sporting clubs and teams, author visits, Duke of Edinburgh Award and trips within the UK and abroad. We firmly believe that by engaging students and encouraging enjoyment we inspire them to learn and achieve therefore helping them to develop into fully contributing and happy members of our community. Thornden also leads a large successful Teaching School alliance with an outstanding School Centred Initial Teacher Training programme and we are a Research School.
