Second in Charge of Maths - Head of KS3 job summary
The Role
We are a school with a great commitment to Mathematics, high levels of attainment and great enthusiasm from pupils—as shown by very high levels of uptake at A-level. The successful candidate will work alongside our Director of Maths, leading on key aspects of the department’s work, including curriculum and assessment in Key Stage 3 and will be a committed teacher with a track record of leading pupils to achieve great results. They will share the school’s vision and the belief that all young people can achieve at high levels. There will be significant career progression available for the successful candidate.
Key responsibilities
Ensure that pupils are making appropriate progress in Maths in Key Stage 3, and that own teaching and learning is of a high quality;
Oversee the pastoral care of pupils;
Oversee the curricula for Key Stage 3 and hold staff to account for planning and reflecting on these in collaboration with Director of Maths;
Lead parts of departmental meetings and co-plan these with Director of Maths;
Monitor and evaluate the ‘Numeracy across the curriculum’ strategy across the school;
Create a purposeful learning environment;
Support the Academy Leadership Team to set vision and direction for the Secondary phase in line with Academy vision;
Set a vision and targets for pupil success;
Track progress, regularly monitor reports on progress, identify and deliver interventions where appropriate;
Align and uphold the Academy vision, standards of behavior, discipline and exclusion policy;
Deal effectively and sensitively with child protection issues.
Other
Undertake other various responsibilities as directed by the Academy Leadership Team; and
Undertake the main professional duties of a teacher as set out in the Reach Academy pay and conditions of service document.
