What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking to appoint a creative, forward-thinking, passionate Teacher of English. You will have a love of reading and writing, with a wide-ranging field of interest. We want dynamic teachers with new ideas on engaging pupils in English Language and Literature, showing a passion for delivering high-quality lessons. We welcome innovation within a collaborative department.
As Second in Department, you will bring fresh ideas and concepts based on research to the role and work alongside the HOD to implement new ideas and pedagogy. As well as deputising for the HOD when required, you will support them in developing your own leadership experience and ability to collaborate with the department. You will be exposed to how data is used as a leader and develop systems of assessment and monitoring to ensure progress is made.
You will be joining a strong, friendly, teaching department with a wide range of expertise. This would be the ideal role to further develop your teaching craft and develop your leadership skills. There will be opportunities to teach across KS3, 4 and 5, allowing you to present your enthusiasm for the subject or to develop best practice. English is a leading department at Highcrest; GCSE results are good, and A-Level students have progressed to prestigious universities, including Cambridge. Literacy is a whole-school key improvement focus.
Are you a team player, passionate about education and social mobility? Do you want to be a pivotal part of improving opportunities for the students, increasing their learning and social experiences? Do you want to work in an environment which prioritises staff and student health and well-being? Then please apply now!

Our Ofsted Report 2020 says, “The school has a warm and welcoming atmosphere” and“Pupils at The Highcrest Academy happily live up to the school’s motto of ‘aspire and achieve’”. All who work at the academy reinforce our six virtues linked to our motto (Ambition, Sensitivity, Purpose, Integrity, Resilience and Eloquence), helping us instil a culture of excellence that runs throughout every strand of our Academy. Situated in the leafy Chilterns and within easy reach of Central London, Highcrest is culturally and academically diverse and is the only academy in Buckinghamshire that caters for students of ‘all abilities’. Some of our students need all your support, whilst others need to be challenged and stretched. Our inclusive and successful House system, a wide range of clubs, visits and trips helps to bring our whole school community together. There are approximately 1,000 students on roll, including the Sixth Form. Recent additions to our site include a gym and restaurant/coffee shop for both staff and students, as well as a purpose-built Sixth Form Centre.
