We are seeking a dynamic and highly motivated teacher to join our Maths team as Second in Department. We are looking for a teacher who is committed to supporting our Curriculum Lead to achieve academic excellence and high classroom standards within our Maths department. The ideal candidate will be a well-qualified practitioner with a passion for Maths and have a proven track record of securing successful student outcomes. This post would be ideal for a Teacher of Maths looking for the next step in their career and at Havant Academy you would be part of leading a department of subject specialists on an exciting journey to excellence.

As Second in Department in Maths at Havant Academy you will be required to work with and support the Curriculum Leader to:
Develop and lead a team of teachers to ensure high standards of teaching and learning, student progress and the well-being of staff and students.
Lead the learning area in all aspects and across relevant Key Stages.
Work with other teachers to improve their work and enhance the educational outcomes for all students including Pupil Premium and SEND.
Monitor and evaluate assessment data to identify trends, issues for development and in order to assure quality throughout a student’s educational experience of the subject.
Develop schemes of work, approaches to teaching and the uses of new technologies to produce high quality teaching and learning that generate enthusiastic responses from students and self-sufficient learners.
Produce an annual department evaluation and an improvement plan, which is designed to help achieve school targets.
For this role, you will have the following essential (E) and desirable (D) experience:
Qualified Teacher Status (E)
Degree level qualification in the relevant subject (E)
Evidence of further professional development (E)
At least 2 years successful teaching experience (D)
Results that show students have made good progress in relation to school/individual targets (E)
Experience in writing or contributing to a school or subject improvement plan (D)
Experience of leading people with high expectations but also modelling enthusiasm, energy and a good sense of humour (D)
A record of good or outstanding classroom teaching demonstrating passion and innovation in your teaching techniques (E)
Good communication skills with students, parents, colleagues and stakeholders (E)
A clear understanding of the diverse needs of students and how to meet them (E)
Awareness of strategies to raise student attainment and manage behaviour (E)
Good understanding of the subject and its place in the national curriculum (E)
