Second in Department: Science job summary

As Second-in-Department: Science, you will play a key leadership role in supporting the Head of Department to deliver high-quality teaching and learning across the science department. You will contribute to shaping curriculum design, driving standards of achievement, and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence in science education.

Key responsibilities include:

Assisting in the strategic planning and day-to-day management of the department.

Supporting colleagues with lesson planning, assessment strategies, and professional development.

Leading on specific areas of the science curriculum or initiatives, as delegated by the Head of Department.

Monitoring student progress and outcomes, ensuring high expectations are maintained for all learners.

Promoting enrichment opportunities and inspiring students to engage with science beyond the classroom.

Acting as a role model for effective teaching practice and contributing to a collaborative, supportive team environment.

This role offers the opportunity to influence the direction of science education within the school, while developing your own leadership skills and preparing for future progression into senior positions.
