Second in English Department job summary

Due to internal promotions, departmental restructuring and continual growth of our sixth form, The Bishop of Winchester Academy is seeking a proactive, adaptable and passionate English specialist to join our school as a Second for the English department.

This is an exciting opportunity to support an experienced Head of English in developing and implementing departmental strategies to nurture our students’ literary passion. Whatever your career stage, you will be supported to develop further literary knowledge and to enhance your teaching tool kit, so that our students are able to excel as both writers and linguists.

Our Head of English would be delighted to take you on a tour of the school and give you the opportunity to meet the department and answer any questions you may have.

As Second in English, you will join an established team of creative professionals to:
• Play a fundamental role in helping to move the English department to the next stage in its development
• Plan and deliver high quality and engaging lessons that will challenge students and inspire progression
• Encourage students to have high expectations of themselves and their behaviour
• Be able to teach GCSE and A-Level
• Be a positive role model and supportive mentor to students

The post offers ample opportunities for personal career development, in addition to:
